I’m Here…

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Just too busy to post at the moment.  More bad weather is on its way and there is still the matter of my roof…

Today Is…

Monday, January 7th, 2008

…the last day of Christmas vacation.  Interestingly, I am both sad and overjoyed.

In other news, I have put a onesie onto my little dog to keep him from chewing himself to a bloody pulp.  Also, the cold weather is absolute hell on my older dog and he is currently hobbling around in pitiful shape, on anti-inflammatories, and generally getting everything he wants, including the summer sausage which was intended for my dh.  (And my poor dh has worked the better part of 70 of the last 96 hours.)

Here’s hoping your week starts off better than mine has ended.

New Year’s Eve…

Monday, December 31st, 2007

I imagine that I will welcome in 2008 in the same exciting fashion I welcomed in 2006 and 2007–sleeping.

Sad, I know, but staying up is completely beyond me.  I am not a night owl.  I am never too excited to sleep.  I have a set amount of hours that I can go and when those hours have expired–usually around 9:30, right after Everybody Loves Raymond goes off–I’m done.  I “hit the wall” and am down for the count.

What about you?  Do you have any exicting New Year’s Eve plans?  A fancy dinner?  Fireworks with family?  Or, like me, will you celebrate in dream land, hoping the resolutions you’re about to make will actually stick?

We Interrupt Your Regularly Scheduled Programming…

Monday, December 24th, 2007

…to celebrate Christmas!  I’ve got double duty this week at the Soapbox Queens and it was my turn to host our montly contest, which gave me snowychristmas.jpganother day and I thought to myself, “Self, you don’t have time for this.  You have to bake little smokies and make cheeseballs and run from pillar to post and back again and at some point actually celebrate Christmas.”

There might have even been a little cussing in there, but I edited for content because I am thoughtful that way.

Anyway, I digress.  Frequently.

So…long story short I’m going to take this week off from my blog and will return with new and exciting posts full of the rambling mediocrity you’ve come to expect from me starting December 31st.

In the mean time, here’s wishing you a very  and a blessed New Year.

Heaven Help Me…

Friday, December 21st, 2007

reindeer.bmpThe kids are out of school.  Full-blown Christmas mania starts for our family Saturday at 4 o’clock.  The book is not quite done–though I am getting there–and we’re going be celebrating non-stop until the day after Christmas.

Pray for me and I’ll pray for you.  Safe holiday travel, no high family drama, everyone likes their gifts, etc…

Have a great weekend!

Thank you.

Another Serious Gap in My Children’s Education…

Monday, December 17th, 2007

I recently bought a bag of nuts for the Holidays.  Actually, I bought them to use for decoration more than to eat, but I did go ahead and get a nutcracker in case my kids wanted to shell a few pecans.  Imagine my surprise when I realized that neither one of my children could recognize a pecan in the shell.  Or a walnut, or Brazil nut, or even an almond for that matter.  They did recognize a chestnut, but only because we’d seen a show on the Food Network about them.

Is this normal?  Have I fallen down on the job here?  Do your kids/siblings/etc…know their nuts?

These are things I need to know.

Let’s Play I Wish!

Pick three, totally selfish wishes.  I wish…

…I could magically lose thirty pounds.

…I never had to balance my checkbook again because I have a self-replenishing account.

…I had a *real* office.

Your turn.  And remember–be selfish!

How To Win Friends and Influence People

Friday, December 7th, 2007

Well, maybe not.  But you will certainly make the people you share this fabulous Pecan Pie recipe with very happy.  They will drool.  They will rhapsodize your culinary abilities.  They will beg you for the recipe and offer to clean your house.  (Probably not, but it sounded good, didn’t it?)

Anyway…  This is my favorite Pecan Pie recipe and because it’s the end of the week and my brain is basically all but shutting down, I thought I would do something simple and helpful to make both of our lives easier.

1/2 cup dark corn syrup

1/2 cup white corn syrup

1 cup light brown sugar

1/3 tsp of salt

1/3 cup of melted butter

3 eggs

1 cup pecans

1 9 inch pie shell

To Prepare:

Combine syrup, sugar, salt and butter.  Slightly beat the eggs, then add to the mixture. Beat well, then pour into pie shell.  Sprinkle pecans on top of pie.  Bake at 350 for 50-60 minutes.  Enjoy!

Have a GREAT weekend, everyone!  (And make this pie!)
