r-and-d-on-horseback.JPG

Here’s proof that I actually really did ride Alphie the Horse From Hell while in Scotland.  Notice how he looks like he’s about to go somewhere?  Well, he did.  He trotted directly into the barn for hay.  Without my consent.  And that was only the minor infraction.  The rest of the time he tried to pick fights with any horse who dared to attempt to come around him.

He was still pretty though.

Also, I looked all over Scotland for a fetching hat because I really want to be the kind of person who can wear one and look cute.

Alas, this is as close as I got.

Last Night’s Menu…

Friday, August 10th, 2007
  • Fried Chicken

  • Fried Potatoes

  • Fried Green Tomatoes

  • Fried Peas (Ha!  Just kidding.  They were actually fresh Field Peas, which my fam adores.)

  • Cornbread

  • Fresh sliced tomatoes

  • Tea

  • Sliced peaches and pound cake for dessert.

I kept the phone on the table in the event that one of us had a heart attack and we’d need to call 911.

It’s hot.  I needed comfort food.  And nothing says comfort like fried chicken, excpept maybe a fried Snickers candy bar, but the fair won’t be in town until next month.  (Jen, I’m only kidding.  Seriously.  Even I draw the line at a fried candy bar.  But I wouldn’t be opposed to a caramel apple….  )

It’s Free Book Friday at the Soapbox Queens!  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Friend Me!

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

Because there was lots of buzz about having a myspace page at Nationals this year, I decided to bite the bullet and put up a profile.  My site hasn’t been tricked out yet, but Jen’s daughter–aka The Girl– is supposed to hook me up as soon as she finishes her homework.  Or sometime soon, anyway.   In the meantime, I would really appreciate it if you all would pop out and take a look.

And of course, friend me.  Please.

Also, I’m blogging at The Soapbox Queens today–double duty this week–so click on over there, too.  I’ve brought my pets to the Palace.

The Joy!

Husband to son:

“We’ve got a lot to do tomorrow in the yard, so you’d better go to bed early.”

“Sorry, Dad, I’ve got to read tomorrow.”

This is lovely to me on oh-so-many levels.  Hubby is going to work in the yard–hip hip hooray!  And son can’t help because he’s got to read–double hip-hip-hooray!  (He’s left his summer reading to the last minute and must get it done, reports written and all that jazz before school starts back.  Still, I am thrilled that he’s actually going to do it without asking me for the Cliff’s Notes or to rent the movie.)

At any rate, things are getting done around here which warms my heart and makes my toes tingle.  Dare I hope the gate will get fixed?  My swing put back up on the deck?  The carport pressure-washed?

:::sigh:::  Happy times, people.  Happy times….

Pretty, yes?

Happy Fourth of July!

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

We’ll resume whining tomorrow.   Hope everyone has a happy and safe Fourth.  Please remember our troops and say a little prayer for them and their families.

Also, feel free to post your favorite Fourth recipes in the comments. My people are getting a bit tired of the same old Rhonda fare…

Of Note…

1.) The site has gotten a new look!  I LOVE it.  Heartfelt thanks to Justin and Amy at Stonecreek Media.  They rock.

2.) Today is my anniversary.  In early honor of the event, the dh and I pulled out home videos last night and…

     YA’LL  (swallows lump in throat)

time has simply flown by.  I always worried about my hair and my waistline and hated having that camera pointed in my direction,    but I have to admit that I’m so glad now that D insisted on pulling it out at Christmas and birthdays and for random things the kids were doing.  They were *so* sweet.  And we were *so* young.

:::sniff:::

Anyhoo…I’m just thankful for my little family.

Home Again!

Monday, June 25th, 2007

I am still too tired to do a proper post, but wanted to pop in and let you all know that a.) I made it home and b.) I had a WONDERFUL time.  It’s a beautiful country steeped in rich heritage and if it weren’t for the midges–little biting bugs that swarm–and the lack of ice, I might be tempted to live there.  As it were, I hated those little bugs and I am addictied to ice, so….   Nevertheless, I would love to go back someday.

The Playfriends were fabulous companions (special thanks to Danniele for patting my back while I tossed my Full Scottish Breakfast a block of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh after a short but memorable ride on a double decker bus and to Kim, for braving those tiny roads and round-abouts and planning the trip to start with.  Kira, I would thank you for the horseback riding, but we all know that would be a lie.   Andrea, Navigator Extraordinaire, I forgive you for that pointless trek up the side of the mountain.  You couldn’t have known neither my aversion to walking up tall things or that the path was blocked AT THE TOP.  In any case, you’re hysterical and a constant source of entertainment.   Singing Georgia Satellites’ Keep Your Hands To Yourself at the top our lungs on the way back from the Orkney’s was a particularly fine moment.

At any rate, I had big fun.
