I’m Writing It Down To Remind Her Later…

In order to spend less time in the kitchen and more time working, I’ve been trying to scale back a bit in the cooking department.  Not to say that I’m not cooking–I am.  But I don’t have to fix a meat, three veggies, a salad and dessert EVERY night in order to properly feed my family.  The dh and I have discussed this and he agrees.

Our children, however, don’t.

Particularly my daugther who recently informed me–after I’d had the nerve to fix something that wasn’t her absolute favorite–that when she had her own family she’d be fixing them individual meals so that everyone always had something they liked.

Alrighty then.

I’ve written it down and saved it in her keepsake box.  Needless to say, the first time she complains about an ungrateful child showing up at her dinner table, I’ll be pulling that little jewel out and sharing it with her.

Don’t tell me this. I thought my child would grow out of not liking what I cook. He will tell me “I like mashed potatoe but not yours mommy.” Kids

    Uh, right!

Isn’t it lovely when they hand you future ammunition like that?

Is your daughter old enough where she could prepare and of course clean up, dinner one night a week? Maybe give her a taste of what is to come? Good luck with that.

  6. Jen Says:

Hey, I like Ginger’s suggestion. And she could start by having everyone tell her their absolute favorite and then she could prepare that individual meal for each of you. I think she’d get the message before it ever got any further than the planning stage.

Heh! I like Ginger’s idea, too–I imagine that’d set her straight right quick!

And yes, definitely one for her keeper file–she’ll be rolling her eyes at her younger self some day!

Susan, my kids critique like that as well! Break him early!

Danniele, it is wonderful. I’ve saved it in her file.

Kimberly, I am sure I will laugh later.

Ginger, excellent idea! I think I’ll make BOTH kids do this over Christmas break.

You’re right, Jen–she’d learn her lesson quite quickly.

Fedora, I had to roll my eyes to resist thumping her!
