Give Me Strength

Today I am more than likely going to go with my mother to pick out a new dog.  Her little toy poodle–a present from me almost two years ago–is lonely while my mom is at work, and needs a companion.  A local shelter has a litter of chihuahua/rat terrier mix puppies.  They are tiny.  They are cute.  They need a home.

But one of them can’t have mine.

Daughter has already looked at the puppies online and chosen one, has written a letter promising to take “full responsibility:–ha! like I haven’t heard that before–and son insists that our Ollie would be much happier with a playmate.  Presently we’ve got two dogs and a rabbit and I can’t take on another pet at the moment.

I. CAN’T.

Seriously.

I have to be strong.  I cannot weaken.

Um…I believe I told you yesterday that it would be darn near impossible to come home without one of those cuties. Call me on your way back…and tell me what you’re naming it.

    But they’re soooo cute.

I really want a dog. But I kinda like my hubby. Since dogs make it difficult for DG to breathe, this creates a problem.

    Therefore, I’m dogless. sigh

    Stay strong, sister….

  4. Jen Says:

Ah, Kimberly, the chichuaua is the perfect dog for you. Don’t know why but they work for asthmatics. course it would suck if DG turned out to be the exception but you may want to do some research.

Rhonda, I can help you pull together a list of cute names.

This always happens to me. That’s how I ended up with 4 pets to begin with. A friend forced a kitten on me. Then my mother decided the kitten was lonely (just ask Jell-o, she’d tell you she was FINE before Knight got there) so she went out and got another kitten. This worked out fine for about 5 years. Then one day, a dog showed up in my yard. DB insisted we catch her and keep her. A year later, almost to the day, another dog shows up, making big moon eyes at me. DB fed him and they watched football together. I was done for.

I can barely stand going to Petsmart on a Saturday - going to the shelter?? Ack. No way.

Resist, Rhonda! You can do it! Just visit your mother’s dog if you must.

Oh dear, good luck! We have two cats, and hubby won’t let me have any more. We want a dog, but first we have to get our yard fenced. We’ve spent so many years without a dog that it’s pretty easy to keep putting it off. But, like Andrea, I avoid PetSmart on Saturday. And you can’t get me into the shelter. No way.

Um, I’m probably not the best person to be wishing you strength where animals are concerned. I’ve put my foot down several times and it never seems to do me any good.

Waiting for an update. Which puppy did we end up with…? Dax? Gracie? Dewey? Gabrielle? I have to admit they are cute.

  9. Rhonda Says:

We haven’t gotten one yet. We have to wait for the microchip person to come in and do that before they’re ready to go. Probably tomorrow, but I’m holding out for this afternoon. Will keep you posted.

    Thanks, everyone!
