Flashback!
Well, sorta. I got an email from Jen yesterday with pictures from a 1977 JC Penney catalog and it absolutely made me howl. I was 6 years old in 1977 and can remember lots of things from that time period in my life. The big bag of M&M’s in my stocking at Christmas. The baby birds I found in the chimney. Picking plums off the tree in my grandmother’s back yard. Penny candy. However, I cannot remember ANY of this…

and this

and this

I don’t recall my parents ever dressing alike and if they did, I am certain I have blocked it out.
In fact, I seem to have blocked out anything to do with fashion from that time. Now I know why.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

I remember my mother’s sister and her boyfriend/soon to be husband dressed alike in the seventies. I remember thinking how stupid they looked. The other two pictures I don’t remember anyone dressing like those people.

I guess it all depends on whether the people you knew were regulars on Hee Haw…

It was the captions that were so particularly funny. The one above the kid read, “How to get your ass kicked in kindergarten.”
I was laughing so hard I cried.

Wow… takes you right back…

Happy weekend! (and horrors–will my children someday look back at photos of my husband and me and just laugh and laugh and laugh? Yes, and it probably won’t be because of our awful fashion sense!

Oh lord, I don’t remember that at all! And I was 10 in 77. I used to sit and look at the Penney’s catalog and pick out my clothes, from the underwear all the way to the coats. Of course I was looking at ladies clothes and imagining how fashionable I would be. I don’t remember things that looked like that!
I think Andrea’s right about Hee Haw….

Sadly, I remember these pictures well. Thankfully, I never dresed like that but I did have a shirt, I made myself, like the one in the middle. I absolutely loved the old cavalry look and made a Vogue skirt to go with it. Yes, oh yes. The cowgirl look was great. That way, I got to wear my cowboy boots. And I did love my cowgirl boots.

Can someone tell me what the point of a 6 inch tie is?? I’ll admit I missed most of this decade, but I’m struggling to figure that one out.

Andrea, they’re wearing them again, but they are fat instead of skinny. I still don’t get it, but I’ve seen at least 5 men with them in the past month. They tend to be young men, tho…..
