I’ve assembled the costumes, bought the candy and am ready to conquer Halloween.  Daughter has high hopes for winning best costume for the 3rd year in a row.  Son is looking forward to getting candy.

They each have their priorities.

I’ll post pictures tomorrow, provided I have any skin left on my fingers.  I’ve been burning myself with the hot glue gun all day.  Whah!

I know it’s not Wednesday, but…

My sweet, wonderful, darling, kind-hearted, brilliant little girl is driving me crazy!!!

She’s going to be a box of popcorn for Halloween.  I spent most of yesterday burning myself with hot clue, almost cutting myself with box cutters, marking off inch lines in red posterboard and what did she have to say when she got home from school and saw my efforts?

“That box is too small.”

Guess what?  Too bad.

This weekend I’m heading off to a Writer’s Retreat with my fellow chapter members to a beautiful old B&B.  We’re getting massaged, people are brining wonderful snacks, we’re going to plot and plan and even commit a little mayhem.  (In the form of a Murder Mystery party!)  I’ve got my sequined headband and purple peacock feather, fishment hose, my long cigarette holder (part of the outfit, cause I don’t smoke) and a black flapper dress.  I’d bought a wig, but when one of my kids asked if I was going to be  a “goth flapper” I decided it was overkill.

Anyway, I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!  I know I will! 

Have I mentioned that reader mail warms my heart and makes bubbles of happiness burst in my chest?  If not, it does.  I’ve already started getting letters about FEELING THE HEAT–which technically is a November release, but is already on the shelves here at my Wal-Mart–and I’m tickled pink that readers are enjoying the story.  I had so much fun creating that hero and heroine, and setting the book in moody Memphis made it all the more enjoyable.  (I happen to love Memphis.) 

Anyway, this morning, I would just like to take a little moment and thank all of you for reading my books, and hanging out with me daily, here and at the Soapbox Queens.  You all are THE best!

You know, things are going really well right now. I’m working on a new book and it’s flowing well. The kids are all well. The dh is finished working the outage and is finally home more. I’ve got a Writer’s Retreat this weekend that I’m really looking forward to.  (We’re having a Murder Mystery party and I get to wear a flapper dress.  )  All in all, other than the fact that I continue to eat and NOT lose weight, I can’t complain.   But that doesn’t mean that you can’t.  Whine away!  I’m listening!

Sorry this post is late in coming. 

I just got out of bed.  Because my kids are out of school and it’s dark and gloomy and RAINING!!!  Can I get a  ?

I’ve got to work today, but am seriously considering going back to bed.  Dh is still asleep, son is still in bed, daughter spent the night with my mom. The house is quiet.  And it’s raining.  Have I mentioned that it’s raining?  After months of no rain, I could almost go out there and play in it.  (And I have before, so…  )  What about you?  Does sleeping in on rainy days soothe your soul as well?

My daughter has had some sort of wicked crud all week and has been home with me for three days.  Yesterday she walks into the living room, where I am working on the laptop and very matter-of-factly says, “I think I’m going to name my tongue.  It’s like having a whole other person in there.”

Then she starts doing all these weird little tricks.  Rolling, making waves, turning it over sideways, curling it up into some sort of flower.  Honestly, it’s amazing.  Apparently they’ve been talking about inherited traits at school–something to do with the tongue–and so she’s just started seeing what all she can do.  Have I mentioned she’s an A student?  (One that can’t spell, but still.)  Should I be concerned that she’s going to join the circus and perform tongue tricks?

A couple of days ago this little guy flew into my sliding glass window.  (Don’t worry.  He eventually flew away, so he wasn’t hurt.)

 I’ve only recently really started looking at the birds that flock to my feeders, so I’m sad to say I didn’t know that this was a male hairy woodpecker.  (I had to email Brenda and Jen and show it to them.)  Right now I know that I’ve got chickadees, nuthatches, titmice, wrens, blue jays and cardnials coming to my feeders, but there are several more I can’t identify just yet.   The chicadees are my favorites.  They’re just happy little birds.   What about you?  Do you put out feed for our feathered friends?  Do you enjoy watching them?
