Last Night’s Menu…

  • Fried Chicken

  • Fried Potatoes

  • Fried Green Tomatoes

  • Fried Peas (Ha!  Just kidding.  They were actually fresh Field Peas, which my fam adores.)

  • Cornbread

  • Fresh sliced tomatoes

  • Tea

  • Sliced peaches and pound cake for dessert.

I kept the phone on the table in the event that one of us had a heart attack and we’d need to call 911.

It’s hot.  I needed comfort food.  And nothing says comfort like fried chicken, excpept maybe a fried Snickers candy bar, but the fair won’t be in town until next month.  (Jen, I’m only kidding.  Seriously.  Even I draw the line at a fried candy bar.  But I wouldn’t be opposed to a caramel apple….  )

It’s Free Book Friday at the Soapbox Queens!  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good mornin Rhonda! Great minds think alike..I just told hubby I need to make some fried chicken this weekend. He told me quit teasing, so I am off to the market after work. We have home-made mashed red potatoes (made w/creme and butter), cornbread and sliced homegrown Maryland tomatoes w/our chicken (had to balance out some of the bad for your body stuff yah know) til they see the dessert anyway, which will be a surprise! Have a great day. (when the fair comes in a month the family will head to the cheese booth…nothin like FRIED cheese stix) Oh there we got back to the bad for you stuff

  2. Jen Says:

Girls!! It’s too darn hot to be frying that chicken! I like fried chicken but I’m not fryin’ nothin’ when it’s this hot. Maybe I’ll send the DH to Mrs. Winners.

Rhonda, I’m so proud that you’re drawing the line at fried candy bars. Ooops. I couldn’t quite contain a shudder.

  3. Andrea Says:

I had deep fried oreos at the fair the last time I went. They were ok. I’d rather have a deep fried twinkie I keep hearing about. Nah, I’d pass both up for good funnel cake with powdered sugar.

I’ve given up on frying chicken. Its too much work. Plus, at Sams, you can get this great pre-breaded boneless, skinless chicken breasts that you just bake in the oven. Some cornbread does sound good though. You might actually inspire me to cook tonight, Rhonda. Well, maybe.

  4. Kimberly Says:

It’s so hot, I can’t bring myself to heat up the oven. Much less stand over the stove.

    But that menu sounds yummy.

  5. Fedora Says:

Mmmm…. sound completely yummy! I’m not terribly talented in the kitchen though, and would probably need the phone on hand in case I either set the house on fire or myself…

  6. Kathy Says:

Only in the south! I haven’t had fried chicken in a while. Must put that on my menu for the weekend. What’s this about fried oreos and candybars? I’ve never even tried fried green tomatoes. I’m told I don’t know what I’m missing but something just seems wrong about that. Can you tell I grew up in the Army?

My comfort food… homemade chocolate chip cookies!

  7. Rhonda Says:

Ooh, Sarah fried cheese on a stick sounds divine!

Jen, I *knew* you’d shudder over the friend candy bar.

    Andrea, I live to inspire.

Kimberly, you are injured. You don’t need to stand over the stove.

Fedora, setting things aflame would definitely put a damper on the meal.

Kathy! (GASP!!!) You have to try a Fried Green Tomato. Wonderful, wonderful.

  8. Kimberly Says:

    >you are injured, you don’t need to stand over the stove

I keep telling DG that, but I think he’s getting tired of take-out…

  9. Sheryl M Says:

You ladies forgot fried corn!! That is one item i request along with potatoe pancakes everytime I go to my mom’s!!

  10. Sarah Says:

Sheryl, fried corn?? Hmmm never had it.

Okay I have tried fried tomatoes, finally after years of saying ‘yuck’ to something that, well is green! I know, just like a kid. They were awesome. Fedora, if the food catches on fire, just name it some fancy French word and tell family you’ve been wanting to try something new!!

Kimberly, I am only frying chicken in this heat because no way in hades am I turning on the oven. We ran out of crock pot ideas this week so me thinks one day the blog should be recipe swapping, whatcha think boss?? So how is everyone’s Friday?? I am headin over to the castle now, need royal, ME time. TGIF gals, that’s all I can say.

  11. Kris Starr Says:

Wow. That *does* sound good, but if it’s as hot down there as you’re saying it is, I wouldn’t want more than a nice cold salad.

By the way — you should come up to Canada. It’s currently a lovely 78 degrees outside. In fact, the breeze is cool enough to give me goosebumps right now…

  12. Sarah Says:

Kris, do us a favor and move the breeze south would yah??

Everyone stay safe and have a wonderful weekend!!!

  13. Rhonda Says:

Kimberly, I’m sure he’ll survive. Your health is what’s important.

Ooo, Cheryl fried corn sounds divine. New item added to next week’s menu!

Sarah, a recipe swap would be fabulous! They did one recently over at the Plotmoney’s and I got lots of new dinner ideas.

Kirs, I’m so envious. 9:00 here and still 90 degrees. Argh!!!

Sarah, hope you have a wonderful weekend, too!
