The Joy!
Husband to son:
“We’ve got a lot to do tomorrow in the yard, so you’d better go to bed early.”
“Sorry, Dad, I’ve got to read tomorrow.”
This is lovely to me on oh-so-many levels. Hubby is going to work in the yard–hip hip hooray! And son can’t help because he’s got to read–double hip-hip-hooray! (He’s left his summer reading to the last minute and must get it done, reports written and all that jazz before school starts back. Still, I am thrilled that he’s actually going to do it without asking me for the Cliff’s Notes or to rent the movie.)
At any rate, things are getting done around here which warms my heart and makes my toes tingle. Dare I hope the gate will get fixed? My swing put back up on the deck? The carport pressure-washed?
:::sigh::: Happy times, people. Happy times….

Darlin’, I hate to bust your bubble, but reading is simply the lesser of two evils. Girl would elect to read in a heart beat if it got her out of yard work. And yes. She too has 75 pages to read and one more book report to churn out before next Monday.

And I thought school was out for the summer. I’m not looking forward to being out this week, the heat index is at 100 according to the weather people, yowsar! Help that DH to stay cool and not over heated. Have a wonderful Monday.

I’m not looking forward to the days when the girls have homework over the summer. Just one more thing for me to keep track of.

Jen, the bubble isn’t busted. I’m still tickled.
Ginger, my kids always have summer reading. (Which I’m glad of because otherwise they wouldn’t pick up a book all summer.
)
Kira, honestly it hasn’t been much of a problem for us. They each have a corkboard in their room and the summer reading list and instructions are stuck to that board. They *know* they have to get it done and they can’t claim ignorance.

Can your DH head over here once he’s done? I have a list a mile long…

Sorry, Kim–he’s booked up for a while here. At some point he’s got to put a roof on our outbuilding, and then finish it out, and pour a sidewalk and…
Well, you get the picture.
