>>There’s another one with melted candy bars in a diaper (you have to guess which candy bar is which) but that one just sounds gross to me.

Trust me, it is! They did this at my DIL's shower and I nearly gagged even though I knew it was candy bars.

Thanks, Mis! We're having it at her work, so those ladies are helping out with the food and stuff as well. :)

Oh, and this isn't so much an activity but might be a group gift idea? I know that I would have welcomed dinners after I got back from the hospital (even after subsequent kids). Maybe have a calendar available and let people sign up for when they might pop by to meet the baby and drop off something to eat (or do a load of laundry, or whatever your sister might want most...)

Oh, one other thought, but this is kind of high on the sap factor, so it really depends on what kind of person your sister is and what she'd enjoy... You could get some sort of scrapbook (doesn't have to be fancy), and have each guest write down a wish or prayer or blessing for the baby/your sister/her family. (These can be as serious or silly as you like--from a lifetime of love to a love of dressing up for Halloween, from "I'll be there for whatever you might need" to "I'll be sure to take you to your first soccer game"...) Make sure to take a photo of each person (preferably w/your sister, but alone is fine, too), and then stick each photo on the same page as the person's note. It'll end up being a gift for your sister and for her child.

Or not... ;)

If she's done the mom/shower thing before, it might just be fun to have some time for the ladies to hang out together and chat (that's what I wanted, anyway ;)). Also, if it's convenient, I've heard of showers where you hire someone to come give mini mani/pedis or massages to the guest of honor, and/or other guests during the shindig. I would have loved that, too!

I'm not big on games myself, but the ones Kira listed are pretty standard, as is the one where everyone starts off with a couple tokens (clothespins? beads? safety pins?), and whoever catches another person saying "baby" takes a token. Person with the most at the ends wins a prize.

A cute one is to make a list of animals, and have people figure out what the babies are called (i.e., dog--puppy; horse--colt; goose--gosling; and on and on). Or you could do a little multiple choice trivia quiz on interesting baby related facts as they pertain to your sister--most likely name for the little one to come; her own birth weight/size; how likely she is to get an epidural; and so on...

Or just have people talk about nifty baby inventions since the last shower--if it's been close to 10 years, there've been a ton. I know, because there've been a bunch between when I had my first and the baby, and that was only a five year span!

Sorry--if I think of any more, I'll post again...

I think the most important thing is not to overdo it, and know that if you're gathering a bunch of people who care about your sister, she'll have a blast no matter what you end up doing :) :cheer:

http://www.babyshowercentral.com/
Here's a link to some baby shower information - including games to play. There are several I've done over the years:

Take a roll of string and let everyone cut off a piece the size they think will wrap around Mommy-to-be's stomach. The one that gets closest wins.

Take several baby food jars and remove the labels. Have everyone guess what the flavor is. One who gets the most correct wins.

Have a bag or bucket (I think the one I saw used a baby bathtub) full of baby stuff. Everyone gets 30 or 60 seconds to look before you cover it up and everyone has to list what they saw. One who gets the most correct wins.

There's another one with melted candy bars in a diaper (you have to guess which candy bar is which) but that one just sounds gross to me
