Sleeping In…

Well, it’s happened.  I am no longer waking up before the sun rises and have actually started–

GASP!

Sleeping until 8:00AM.  (Which you will notice because I feed the dog, then blog before I take him out.  What can I say?  I am a creature of habit.    )

On Saturday I actually slept until 9:00.  Of course, I’m staying up later because I know that I don’t have to set an alarm so I’m sure that’s no small part of the reason I don’t want to drag my rear from the bed in the mornings.  Nevertheless, there is something so satisfying and well, decadent, about sleeping late.  It was one of the things I looked forward to most out of summer vacation and my kids seem to be of the same mind.  Granted I have a little ulterior motive in letting them sleep late–if they’re sleeping they’re not fighting.  (Someone tell me this will pass.  Please.  Even if you have to lie.  I NEED to hear it.)

So…what’s is/was your favorite part of summer vacation?  Sleeping late?  Sleep overs?  Big breakfasts as opposed to the poptart you ate in the car on the way to school?  (Wait.  That might just be my kids….)  Anyway, share.  Inquiring mind and all that.

**I left my glasses in the bedroom and can’t see, so this post is probably riddled with typos.  I’ll fix them later.  Probably.

I’m not a big breakfast eater so that’s out. I guess sleeping in was always a favorite. Still is. And cooking out and making homemade ice cream. I need to find my ice cream freezer. I haven’t used it since we moved 2 years ago. Hope it didn’t end up in the Goodwill pile.

    Definitely sleeping late.

Oh, sleeping in will be a favorite in a few years once the younger ones figure out what a pleasure that is Aside from that, I guess one summer favorite is all the yummy summer fruits… melons, peaches, plums, berries of all kinds… mmmmm….

Oh, yeah, sleeping late. With my knee acting up, I knew we wouldn’t make church yesterday (no kneeling for me!), so I turned off the alarm for a sleep in. AC slept until 9.30. Bliss, bliss, bliss.

Sleeping late. I slept till 9 Saturday & Sunday. And Saturday afternoon took a nice, longggg nap. When I get up at 5:30 am during the week, I treat myself to sleeping late on the weekends.

I still can’t seem to sleep through past 6am. It’s driving me crazy.

Growing up, we never got to sleep late because we lived on a farm. Either Mom or Dad was always yelling up the stairs for us to get up and feed the animals. Maybe I’ll get to enjoy it again once the kids are older.

Marilyn, we’ve been making homemade icecream. Banana is my favorite. YUM!

Jen, it is very hard for me to imagine you sleeping late. Of course, that may have something to do with the fact that I’ve roomed with you before, O Rise At The Crack of Dawn One.

Fedora, summer food is always a hit around here. I love watermelon and there’s a guy who sells fruit and veggies on the corner, so that’s nice. I send the kids up with walkie-talkies and they radio back and let me know what he’s got. It’s big fun.

Kimberly, so glad AC slept late for you. Wasn’t she getting up early just a week or so ago? Sorry about your knee!

Ginger, weekend sleeping late is always wonderful.

Danniele, once your babies are all in school, they will love not having to get up early. I definitely wasn’t cut out for farm work. Eek!

    Rhonda,
Fear not. My brother and I used to fight like, well, the End was near. It’s a different story now. In our early 30’s, we’re pretty good friends. The secret? We can’t live together. Makes me glad I have my daughter and no more, though she begs for a sibling.
