It’s Too Hot To…

Cook.

Yes, I know it sounds like a cop-out, but seriously it’s just too damned hot to cook.  I don’t know how people stood it in the olden days, when they had to fire up a wood stove in order to make lunch in the summer.  If we ever build a house, I’m going to have twice as many vents installed in the kitchen than anywhere else in the house.  Who wants to preheat an oven for a pipin’ hot batch of cornbread when it’s 100 degrees outside?

I sure as hell don’t.

I’m thinking this is going to be the Summer of Salad.  Tuna Salad, Chicken Salad, Ham Salad, Taco Salad, etc….

Sheesh.  And to think I was ready for warmer weather.  What the was I thinking?

I do that every year - hope for warmer (or colder depending on what season) weather and then bang my head when I get it.

At the moment though, I’d actually welcome a warm kitchen. My desk is right next to the doorway to the cancer center and they keep that place absolutely freezing. My office is an ice box.

I believe if we had some rain maybe it wouldn’t feel so hot. Think about sandwiches too. Because it’s just me, I can make a small skillet of cornbread in my toaster oven and not heat up the kitchen Hmmm… veggie plate will be on the menu this weekend. And by the way, hope you have a wonderful weekend.

We’re pretty fortunate weather-wise, in that it rarely gets SO hot that cooking’s unthinkable. I’m just lazy But salads are a great option! And put it into a tortilla and you’re completely done–it’s a wrap, right?

Can I have some of your heat? Please??

After a handful of days in the +33-34C range (low 90sF), we’ve spent the last few daysin 10-15C weather (anywhere from 50s-60sF). I’m wearing sweats as I type.

Seriously. I’m going to bake a blueberry pie this afternoon, just to heat up the kitchen a little.

    Brr!

Oh, and by the way — I LOVE the blog scheme now! Gorgeous! Except for some reason your text box that I’m typing in goes waaaaaaay over into your blogroll on the right. Not sure what that means…

Kira, right now I would welcome an ice box. It’s too hot here!

Ginger, you have a great weekend, too!

Fedora, I like the wrap idea! Will file that away for future reference.

Susan, thanks! The whole site has been redone and I just love it.

Kris, sorry o hear that it’s cold up in your neck of the woods. Can’t send any heat your way, but I’m sure you’ll get plenty if you’re coming to Dallas. You are, right?

Oh, no…sorry, sweetie, I’m not coming to Dallas. My travel money this summer has been spent on tickets to fly to Finland for 10 days. Probably one of the last times I’ll be able to see my grandfather, so I need to go.

*Nothing* will keep me away from San Fran next year, though! I’ve never been that far west and am SO excited about the possibility of going there. (Plus, I *think* I may do RT in 2008, too, seeing as I did *nothing* conference-related this year…
