Good Times…

And no, I’m not talking about the 70’s TV show.   I’m talking about how much fun I had this weekend with Jen and Vicki.

Let me put things in perspective for you.  I have a black and gold caftan that my Mom got for me for Christmas a couple of years ago.  I put it on Friday afternoon and didn’t come out of that sucker until Sunday morning.  Even when we had to make a firewood run.  For that, much to Jen’s hilarity, I added my Crocs.   We plotted, planned, laughed, cried, ate–boy, did we eat–watched movies, talked books, process, set career goals.  Everything.  (And I spent around 10 hours working on revisions, too, so I’m very proud of myself.   )  Jen manned the stove–eggs sardou is one of my new favorite things, and Vicki’s new nickname is Keeper of the Flame, as she tended our fire.  We saw cool birds and had an owl show up in our little patch of forest two days in a row around the same time.

We had the best time.

I know if you’ve read my blog then you’ve heard me say–and other writer’s say–that writing is a solitary job and it’s one that generally only other writers get.  (We’re fortunate enough to have an editor who gets it, too.)  But finding a group of friends who understand you–understand what it takes for you to write a book–and then help you find ways to better both is a rare treat.  I came away from this weekend–as I have every time we’ve gotten together–refreshed, energized and just plain happy.   How cool is that?

I’m jealous. Sounds like a blast.

How about pictures? I wanna see the caftan and Crocs.

Sounds like tons ‘o fun! When the Playfriends went off together, we had a drug bust in the next room at the motel.

  3. Jen Says:

Okay, you left out the truly salient point — you had on white socks with the caftan and crocs. Oh, my, I’ve fallen into a fit of laughter yet once again. Fortunately, you are beautiful and if anyone could pull it off, it’s you.

OMG, Marilyn! A drug bust. That’s wild!

  4. Kira Says:

I’m glad you had fun and got plenty accomplished.

Isn’t it great to find friends who get you? I’m lucky to have found that with the playfriends. I honestly don’t know what I did before I met them.

Kimberly, it really was. We always have such a good time.

Marilyn, there will be no pictures of me in the caftan and crocs. And drug bust??? That’s just too wild!

Jen, my feet were cold. I needed those socks.

Kira, we *really* got a lot done. (Which never ceases to amaze me cause we get a lot of talking done, too.)

Marilyn, I think the difference between their trip and ours was they paid for a nice cabin and we skimped on a cheap-o Best Western.

Eventually, maybe we too can make an upgrade.

  7. Ginger Says:

Glad you ladies had a nice time and that you’re back…..

  8. Marilyn Says:

Oh yeah… they busted a meth lab in the room right behind ours. Our bathrooms had adjoining walls and that’s where they were cooking the stuff. Ironically we had titled our first on-the-road blog “Playfriends Gone Wild.” The blog from the next day was titled “But Not That Wild.”

  9. Kira Says:

Ah yes, the memories. Life is never dull when the playfriends get together. There’s no telling what will happen when we get to a foreign country

  10. Rhonda Says:

Kira, that’s exactly what I’m counting on!

  11. Marilyn Says:

Oh dear God! I forgot that we’re unleashing y’all on a foreign country. At least one of us is staying here to keep the home fires burning and initiate diplomatic talks when you screw up.
