A Funny…

Friday, January 12th, 2007

Yesterday I went to the post office to mail a few things and decided to pay with my debit card instead of using cash.  Daughter is with me, flitting around, complaining about being hungry, trying to get me to buy baseball stamps instead of the normal ones I always get.  Cell phone has gone off twice while I was trying to fill out a customs form.  In short, I’m harried.

“Does this package contain anything liquid, chemical, blah, blah, blah or potentially hazardous?”

“It’s books,” I said.  “So I guess not.”

Postmam smiles.  “Romance books, right?”

“Right.”

“Can I get you anything else?”

“Nope.”

“Cash, credit or debit?”

“Debit,” I say, handing over my card.

“Do you want any cash back?”

“No, thank you.”

“Mind if I get twenty?”

It took a minute for this joke to penetrate, but when it did I found it unreasonably funny.

Good News…

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Today I think I’ll live.  I feel a bit better, sinuses are clearing up, etc…  We shall see.

In other news, I’ve decided to revamp my site.  Have I mentioned this yet?  If not, look for a new look sometime in February.  My fantastic web genius Laura is going to design something fabulous for me, I’m sure.

In completely unrelated news, why is it that when I tell my husband that it’s garbage day, he merely rolls the can to the end of the drive without emptying the trash from all the cans inside the house???

Grrr.

Whine About it Wednesday!

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

I’m sick.

Whine over.

Seriously, my head feels like it’s been stuffed with extra snot, I can’t breathe through my nose at all, which makes my throat dry and and breath–  Well, we won’t talk about my breath.  I can’t get warm, my head hurts from coughing and my hand is a perpetual cramp where I’ve carried around a tissue for the past several days.  No amount of cold/cough medicine works.  I am miserable.

*sniff*

Do You Hear That?

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

Ah…me neither.

Because it’s SILENCE.

I know that it’s terrible, because I have thoroughly enjoyed this time with my kids and dh, but the house is FINALLY empty and I can move about and work in peace.  Selfish?  Maybe a little, but…I can’t help it.  I get used to being here by myself, working, cleaning, etc…and I have to admit that I’m a creature of habit and enjoy the routine.  Also, I’m one of those people who is content with their own company.  Go to a movie by myself?  Check.  Eat dinner alone?  Check.  None of that stuff bothers me.  I like me.  Me gets along with me just fine.  Me never argues with me. Me always thinks me’s right.

What about you guys?  Who else was happy to put the kiddies back in school after Christmas break?

I’m Back…

…from one of the most beautiful places on earth!  Me and mine had a wonderful time in Colorado.  Great company, great food, great fun.  The kids had a ball playing in real snow–and we got plenty of it while we were there, the most beautiful of which fell during our sleigh ride. :::sigh::: Absolutely lovely.  We went snow-mobiling, snow-tubing, shopping and, while I personally didn’t ski, the boys in our crew had a great time on the slopes.  We did take a “cat” tour up the mountain, so at least we got to see the view from the mountain without actually trying to go down it.   All in all, the best vacation we’ve ever had.  And we got out in just the nick of time, too–we missed the avalanche by a couple of hours.

Anyway, I’m glad to be home and getting back to work.  The majority of the laundry is done, the house is relatively clean, the dogs were thrilled to see me and I spent a lot of time just laying around yesterday, so I’m refreshed and excited about 2007.  I’ve got a good feeling about this year.  Hope everyone had a great and safe New Years!
