Oops…

So I’m looking at my checking account yesterday and am pleasantly surprised at the extra cash I find in there.  Wow, I think.  I’m much better at this budgeting thing that I thought I was.  I’ve got all this money left over.  What should I buy?  What should I do?  I called my husband to preen and brag.

“I’ve got lots of extra money in my checking account.”

“Good.  Pay more bills.”

“Nope.  I’m going to splurge.

“Why do you have extra money in your checking account?” he wants to know.  “We just finished Christmas and a big vacation.  You shouldn’t have any extra money in your checking account.”

Dammit. he’s right.  I shouldn’t.

“Have you paid all your bills?”

“Of course!” I shoot back, annoyed.

He starts ticking them off, then gets to one that makes my stomach clench.  “What about your car payment?”

Car payment isn’t due yet, but I suddenly realize that I haven’t paid it.  I paid all the other ones before we left for vacation because I knew they’d come due before we got back.  Everything but the car payment.

:::sigh:::

“I knew you shouldn’t have any extra money in that account,” he tells me.

Me, in a total state of disgust.  “You’re such a know-it-all.”

Been there and done that. Balanced my checkbook yesterday, and forget to post a $60 withdrawal. Yes, that made a difference to say the least for me. That’s okay, because today is payday . Have a wonderful weekend.

That’s the pits! True enough that money doesn’t buy happiness…but it doesn’t hurt to have it, that’s for sure. Hey, at least you didn’t go splurge BEFORE you figured out you hadn’t paid the car payment.

I pay all the bills in our house. (DG makes the money; I spend the money. Usually on AC. Okay, I’m a bit high-maintainence too.)

But I can’t balance a checkbook to save my soul. I try, but it never comes out right. So after I spend all the money, I hand it over to DG to sort out. Sounds odd, but it works.

Money may not buy happiness, but neither will food stamps. I’ll give the former a try first.

Uh-oh. …today isn’t payday, I just had to turn in my timesheet for next week . The t-shirt I’m wearing today is very appropriate apparently….Nuttier than a fruitcake.

Sadly, I’ve never mastered the art of balancing a checkbook. I just check it online every few days to make sure I haven’t done anything stupid.

Ginger, sorry about the payday snafu! That’s gotta hurt!

Been there done that more than once. I do balance my checkbook at least every two weeks when we get paid. Microsoft money is great. Have a great weekend. Wish I needed those shades instead of my coat.
